Mayor's Message

Welcome to the City of Brooks! We are blossoming as one of Canada’s 25 youngest communities and a population that is sprouting faster than any other city in southeast Alberta. We hope you’ll join in the fun and energy of our young city.

Manufacturing Industry

Growing on the quickly expanding construction industry in Alberta, Brooks has developed into a prominent manufacturing hub. In the field of fabricated metal products, Brooks and District is home to over 30 metal manufacturing companies.

Cactus Pheasant Classic

The Cactus Pheasant Classic has been dubbed “The Best Curlers, The Best Ice, The Best Rocks and The Best Party. Mention “Cactus” and “Curling” in the same sentence in most places, and you might get a few odd glances in the local coffee shop. In Brooks, however, throw in the name of the city’s symbol and anyone within earshot will draw a little closer for information on the Cactus Pheasant Classic.


Agriculture continues to be a critical component of the local economy. From the inception of the CPR and Eastern Irrigation District in Southeast Alberta, agriculture has continued to be a vital element of the local economy. Brooks has benefited from being situated on the largest irrigated area of farmland in the country.

Dinosaur Pump it Up Run

Run with the Dinosaurs at the annual 3,5 and 10km mixed run. Where else in southern Alberta can you run in a UNESCO world heritage site? The annual Dinosaur Pump it up run offers participants a 3, 5 and 10km mixed run through the most scenic location the Canadian Badlands has to offer.

Come experience a period like no other as we step back in time to the days of ancient folklore and mystery. Witness live jousters battle for glory or find ancient treasures at the medieval market.


We welcome you to the City of Brooks; home to one of the most exciting regions in Alberta. Along the TransCanada highway, just 2 hours east of Calgary and one hour west of Medicine Hat, Brooks links a crucial east-west corridor.

Newell Recycling Centre

“21 days and they’re in China”, grins Doug Shanks manager of the Newell Recycling Centre pointing to material prepared for re-sale. Walk around the new facility with him and both his passion and knowledge of recycling resonates.

Dinosaur Provincial Park

A comfortable, countryside drive from the City of Brooks finds one of the richest troves of dinosaur fossils on the planet. Just over a half-hour from beautiful Brooks, located in the County of Newell, you’ll find the spectacular home of more than 40 distant species of dinosaurs.

Dragon Boat Festival & Race

Every July, youth and veterans alike join oars and participate in the annual Lake Newell Dragon Boat Festival. The 3 day event attracts teams across the province, competing for the championship.
